Collection System Operation & Maintenance Classes

8 AM – 5 PM  No Fee  Lunch on-your-own   8 hrs WW/C Licenses  Instructor: Mark Court,
WARWS Wastewater Trainer

In this class we will discuss typical problems associated with collection systems such as inflow and infiltration, surcharging and exfiltration, deposit and hydrogen sulfide gases, roots, service connections and grease and ways to correct these problems.  We will also discuss safety considerations when working in and around the sewer collection system.  Other topics of discussion will include manhole inspections, line inspections, lift station inspections, maintaining records of your collection system, potential liability issues, and pretreatment standards.  This class will also include video footage of sewer line inspection, Restaurant Oil and Grease Best Management Practices, and practical hands on application using a sewer camera and sewer smoker.   You will be asked to fill out questionnaires about your system so we can gather information for a possible Minimum State Operation and Maintenance Standard.  That would be designed to protect your system from lawsuits in the event of a catastrophic failure of your collection system.  Because of all of the issues that are being discussed, it would be in the best interest of your community for not only certified operators to attend, but clerks and decision makers as well.
